The cowhide I make my Bullwhips with is the same I have been using for years to make braided western style tack. It is cut and beveled by me as always and coated with Aussie leather conditioner to both aid braiding and lubricate the leather, finished off with a few coats of shellac.Construction of each whip is built on a steel pin with either twisted rawhide or rounded latigo for the core, which in most cases runs the entire length of the finished whip. This is covered by a overlay of 8 string braiding and then a final overlay of between 12 and 16 string braiding - the fall is made from Latigo leather and the cracker from Decron waxed nylon thread. As with the decorative braiding I do on walking sticks, the handles of these can be braided with different patterns and/or names plus can be made to look completely original by using different materials for the handles, such a buffalo or deer antler .
